As you’re probably aware, most county fairs—including those in Brown and Nicollet Counties—have been canceled this year. That’s crushing for 4-H kids, especially those with livestock who have been working with their animals for many months, and even years.

To give the kids a chance to show their animals, area counties are holding one-day (usually half-day) “Showcase Events.”

Nicollet County 4-H Showcases will be held Tuesday through Thursday, August 4-6 at the fairgrounds in St. Peter. Brown County’s will be the next week, August 10-14, at the fairgrounds in New Ulm. (Nicollet County’s events will be held in conjunction with Blue Earth County)

At the Hub Club board meeting Tuesday, July 7, the club voted to support both counties financially, since the county 4-H Federations will have to fund many expenses for these events, while also losing their biggest annual source of income, the 4-H food stands at the fairs.

That’s well and good, but the events have another BIG need…volunteers to make the events happen. More volunteers than usual are required because of the constraints of holding events during these days of coronavirus.

Representatives of both county 4-H programs attended our board meeting Tuesday and outlined those special needs. The board indicated that we will do everything we can to round up volunteers to help.

Attached are the show schedules for both counties to show which shows are being held on which days.

To volunteer for any one (or more) of the NICOLLET COUNTY showcase events, go to the SignUp Genius (linked below). Scroll down to find the show(s) you’d like to help with, the job you’d like to do, and check that volunteers are still needed. (Then click “Sign-up”)

BROWN COUNTY has separate SignUp Genius pages for each show, as follows:
Sheep & Goat:

Again, check the jobs that are available and sign-up for one (or more) that still need help.
Let’s show our 4-Hers that we support them!!!

Because of limitations on the number of people that can be at these events, THE PUBLIC IS NOT ALLOWED TO ATTEND. The only way you can be there is as a VOLUNTEER! (So sign up!!!) We’re counting on you!

If not enough volunteers sign up, the “live” events will be shifted to virtual events, which is NOT what the kids want!
